ABSTRACT

Although modern medicine cuts physicians off from patients as a matter of convenience and efficiency, patients want doctors to respect them and to treat them with careful consideration and professional skill. As a service given by doctors for treating patients’ health issues, medical practice has four components: physician, patient, problem, and process. This article sheds light on these four components and examines medical practice from three unique perspectives: pathological, humanistic, and social.
